Safety Tips

Safety Tips

Fireworks are fun — but they require caution. Follow the tips below to reduce the risk of injury or fire. (Source: Kaliswari Safety Tips and safety authorities.)

Before You Light Fireworks

  • Buy fireworks only from licensed, reputable retailers and check local laws and restrictions.
  • Keep children and pets well away from fireworks and the shooting area.
  • Read and follow the label instructions on every firework you use.
  • Never use fireworks while impaired by alcohol or drugs; designate a sober shooter.
  • Store fireworks in a cool, dry place and do not carry them in your pockets.

While Lighting Fireworks

  • Always use fireworks outdoors on a hard, level, non-flammable surface.
  • Never hold fireworks in your hand or place any part of your body directly over them when lighting.
  • Light one device at a time and move back quickly to a safe distance.
  • Never try to alter or make your own fireworks.
  • Keep a bucket of water, a hose, or a fire extinguisher nearby for emergencies.

After Use / Disposal

  • Do not pick up fireworks that appear to be duds — wait 15–30 minutes, then soak them in water before disposal.
  • Soak spent fireworks in water and wrap before putting in household trash.
  • Do not retrieve debris immediately after display — some remnants may still be hot or live.

Special Notes

  • Sparklers burn extremely hot — keep children supervised and give sparklers only to older children handled by adults.
  • Obey safety barriers and keep a safe perimeter for spectators (larger for aerial devices).
  • If fireworks are illegal where you live, do not use them — attend a professional display instead.
